Tsingtao (modern day: Qingtao) 36°04′01″N 120°22′58″E
A major port city since the 18th century located in the eastern coast of China. Since 1891, German and Japanese occupation has had a major fabric of influence in its food and drinking culture.
Most famous is the eponymous Tsingtao beer which is brewed with local Laoshan spring water, hops, malt and the Japanese element of rice in its fermentation.
Among the most popular spirits in Tsingtao is Jagermeister, a German digestif made with 56 herbs and spices similar to Italian Amari. Officially categorized as German Kräuterlikör , “Ye-Ge” as it is commonly called by the locals, has established itself within the social ethos of the city as a spirit consumed as celebration and occasion.
